What the Professionals say about Battlebus
There are tours available of the D-Day beaches of varying quality and depth. We are proud to display these comments by authors, military historians and other industry professionals.
WWII veteran and author of
Currahee a Screaming Eagle in Normandy
, Donald R Burgett “Thank you, you did a superb job, your knowledge and presentations were and are commendable. Other tour systems do not have privilege to the knowledge of many of these unknown stories and locations as Paul does. Since I have been home I have recommended your services to anyone wanting a tour. I rate Paul Woodadge and his Battlebus Tours as the best in Normandy.”
During the past five years or so Ian Gardner and myself have been working on a new book entitled Tonight We Die as Men , which follows the exploits of Third Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment from their formation in the United States until early September 1944. Paul Woodadge has been of great help to us during this time and has guided us around Normandy in his battlebus sharing freely his unrivalled knowledge of the region’s wartime past. Without his help, enthusiasm and passion for the subject our work would be far less complete. Therefore Ian and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Paul’s Battlebus, as in our opinion he and his team offer the best tours currently available. Roger Day Eminent Military author Mark Bando says this: “Paul Woodadge and his capable staff run daily tours, visiting all the significant sites in both the U.S. and Commonwealth sectors of the Debarquement. Paul is a relentless student of all obscure details of the landings. His tours are a first rate experience.” Mike Morgan says “Battlebus is doing sterling work in telling the true story of the momentous undertaking of the D-Day landings, June 6, 1944, must never be forgotten. As a military author and author of D-Day Hero CSM Stanley Hollis VC , I thoroughly endorse the aims and attributes of your organisation and wish Battlebus every success in the future." "I am a volunteer Docent tour guide on the WWII aircraft carrier USS Hornet CV12 floating museum in California. I can only hope that the people who visit Hornet go away with as positive a feeling as I did with Battlebus." Daniel W. Levin "To Paul and Battlebus with fond regards and thanks for their help in carrying the facts of history." T/Sgt Don Malarkey E Co. 506 PIR Band of Brothers. Larry Gwin, author of Baptism a Vietnam Memoir said " I'll never forget our three days with you in Normandy walking the actual ground. Even now, watching Ken Burns's most recent TV offering, 'The War,' I'm still learning how incredible the overall Allied effort was (exemplified by the invasion of Normandy!), and how ignorant some of the American public still is about World War II. It influenced everything we've done since. Keep up the good work on your tours."
Dr Harold Baumgarten, Omaha beach veteran and author of
D-Day Survivor:
"Battlebus is the best Normandy tour group, they will make certain you see all the important and interesting places in Normandy, and learn the history of each place. Their tours are not only good, but GREAT"
"A military historian by education and a professional infantry officer I found Battlebus guide Dale's commentary to be enlightening. His depth of research and personal desire to understand the open air museum that is Normandy was refreshing to me. He was easily able to maintain the interest and attention of my 16 year old son as well as straighten out some of the questions I have had from my own study. Battlebus Tours provides an excellent venue to get away from the highway coach tours. I would have no difficulty recommending Battlebus Tours." S. G. Miller, Catterick Garrison From the acknowledgements in prolific history author Andrew Roberts' book A History of the English Speaking People since 1900 . "I should like to thank the irrepressible Paul Woodadge of Battlebus Tours for conducting me on battlefield tours of Normandy. Paul's encyclopaedic knowledge of Normandy in 1944 has been invaluable in offering insights into the campaign that represents the greatest single service made by English-speaking peoples in the cause of freedom." This longer piece is by renowned author, historian and TV military documentary expert Martin K. A. Morgan During the past five years, I have had several opportunities to work with Paul and Myriam Woodadge and the guides of Battlebus. During this time, I have come to recognize them as being the most knowledgeable historians offering tours of the Normandy battlefields. Based on the deep research that they do in designing the various tour itineraries offered by Battlebus, I consider each of the members of Paul's team true historians. With such effective and knowledgeable staff, Battlebus is truly the finest tour operator there is in Normandy. Also, with their tours commencing in Bayeux, their location could not be more convenient. The product that the company offers is, in my opinion, the best way to experience the D-Day battlefields. Because each tour is conducted using an 8-passenger Peugot Mini-bus, Battlebus can take you where no bus tour can. As that is the case, the Battlebus team is always learning and refining what they do. I have watched the overall quality of their tours improve with each passing year and I can only conclude that the best is yet to come. When I have questions about the Normandy invasion, I turn to the Battlebus team for answers because I know that continuing research and education is something that they consider of the utmost importance. In fact, several of the Battlebus historians have expanded on the research that I did for my book Down To Earth . In every way, Battlebus has its finger on the pulse of D-Day history.
Based on the unique product that it offers and the professionalism of its highly knowledgeable historians, I give Battlebus my strongest endorsement and my highest recommendation.
