Basic Info

A Battlebus Tour is worth paying for,
compare us to other types of Tour

                        Bus and Coach Day Trips
85 Euros can seem a lot of money for a day trip, but bear in mind that with Battlebus you are always part of a group of 8 people or less.  You will have opportunties to ask questions, and during the course of the day the guide will get to know you and keep the tour interesting for everyone within the group.

On a large bus/coach tour, there may well be 50+ people on board with just one guide. Much of the day will be spent loading and unloading and of course waiting for everyone to get back at each stop. There are even day trips of the D-Day beaches that come out of Paris!  If you research these tours on the internet you will find that these can cost from
180 to 200 Euros per person. Also you will spend over 3 hours each way coming here from the French capital via boring motorways.  Lastly they are often multi-language tours, meaning the guide has to make explanations in English, French and maybe a third language too.

Self-Drive Tours
Many people of course drive to the landing beaches on their own, which can be a cost-effective way of touring. But although the main sites are signposted, what about all the little “out of the way stops” that you would never find on your own? Also how many books and maps would you need to buy? If you wanted to use the French IGN 1:25000 series of maps, you would need several just to cover even the basic sites visited on our standard D-Day tours. Guide books are great, but the publishers find it difficult to keep up to date with the new monuments erected each year, and you should also consider the local knowledge we have about road-works, traffic jams, diversions and site closures.

With a Battlebus Tour you don’t have to worry about what happened here? which part of the beach is this? which way is north? Which direction did they attack from here? All this information will be related to you by the guide. In addition to their knowledge, all our staff carry plasticated photos, maps and diagrams, usable in all weathers to aid the tour.

Public Transport
Bus Verts  have routes that go to the beaches - Route 70 covers Omaha Beach and 74 covers Arromanches, but these are just regular local buses for shoppers and workers. Trains - the beaches are not accessible via train. Taxis - are great for trips to and from the rail station and your hotel etc, and the local company in Bayeux (Taxis du Bessin) are friends of ours. But a single journey from Bayeux just to Pointe du Hoc for example (and with any company) would cost you around 40 Euro, not including the trip back, and it will not be a detailed guided tour.

Another Tour Operator
We are of course not the only company offering trips to the D-Day beaches, and we are more than happy for you to browse these alternatives before deciding who to tour with. Indeed we actually encourage you to look at the alternatives, so much so that we provide a list of other services here . There is plenty of choice - there are cheaper tours, tours that cover more sites in day. It's up to you the consumer to decide which tour is best for you.  There's really only one thing we'd like to say - with Battlebus you know you're going to be allocated one of these members of staff - all of whom are expert D-Day historians, they speak English (currently all our guiding staff are British) and our feedback speaks for itself.

Be prepared, do your research and find a tour that suits YOU.  It's a buyers market at the moment, there's lots of D-Day guiding services touting for your business, so make the right choice.
