Battlebus - Tours of the D-Day beaches and battlefields of Normandy

If you would prefer to have a battlefield guide to yourself , and would like to mix and match places from several of our tours into your own special day or days, you might want to consider a Private Tour . This not only offers the flexibility to customise the tour to your exact needs, but we pick you up at your hotel. Private tours are ideal for families , elderly visitors, people with mobility problems and for those who have visited Normandy before and already seen the famous sites and want a more bespoke tour.

Private Tours in one of our vehicles - max 8 people

Our Battlefield Guide will pick you up at your desired location and take you out for a tour of around 8/9 hours in length. This can be for any number of people up to 8, the price above is for leaving and returning to Bayeux, A rromanches, Sainte Mere Eglise, Picauville, Carentan, Port en Bessin or Courseulles and most places within a reasonable drive west of Bayeux. Please note we do not start tours in Caen, or any of the coastal towns east of the city - Le Havre, Deauville and Honfleur for example.

On a private Tour if you wish to visit any Museums - the fees are payable by you (the Guide will have free admission, but will not accompany you inside).

Advantages of a Private Tour

There are various reasons why clients opt for a private tour. Sometimes it’s because a member of the party is worried about the standing and walking and wishes to customise the tour to slow the pace. Another reason is to see a particular area or battlefield not covered on our regular tours. Whatever the reason we are happy to discuss your needs and itinerary.

Tours for children

On our standard tours the minimum age is set at 12 years old. For private tours we can sometimes offer tours for families with even younger children. But it is our experience that the subject of D-Day is really too much to take in for children younger than 12 and we advise that families with very young children make alternative arrangements if they are visiting Normandy. Please note that under no circumstances can we take any children under 5.

Where can we go and what can we see on a Private Tour?

Because it’s your tour, this is entirely up to you. Normally we suggest you use one of our standard tours: for example the American Highlights Tour to base your day on, then add/remove stops as you wish. But please don't think that a private tour means we can work miracles - we often have people who ask if we can fit the itineraries of 2 days of standard touring into one day. The answer is always no, we can customise and adapt but we cannot reduce the distances between the sites of Normandy (although we wish we could.)
