This page offers some suggestions on what to do if we are fully booked or if you are looking for a different type of touring service.

Independant Guides for
Private and "Step on" Tours

At Battlebus we do not offer "step on" tours which means you have a guide join you in your car or bus.  The following independent guides offer this service in addition to vehicle private tours.  Please contact them directly for prices and itineraries and mention that you came via the Battlebus website..

Ellwood von Siebold - D-Day Battle Tours
Eric Le Doux-Turnbull - Normandy Town and Country
Stuart Robertson - Normandy Battle Tours *
John Flaherty - Hand Maid Tours *

Graham Hollands
Danielle Duboscq - NormandYours

                  More D-Day Tour Companies
There are now lots of companies in Normandy offering minibus and private tours.  Please do not ask us to comment on the tours offered by these services. You must make your own decision with regards to what they offer, their prices, guiding staff and range of tours offered. The following companies are listed alphabetically:

What does this huge array of touring services mean?
CHOICE - that's what it means.  There are some battlefields in Europe where there are few working guides, or certainly less options than here in Normandy: Bastogne, Verdun and the Anzio area of Italy spring to mind.

This means that with all these companies and individuals operating in Normandy you the consumer have the option of selecting whatever service you think suits your particular needs.

However please do understand, it's pretty easy these days to create a decent looking website extolling the virtues of your tours.  A good website does not mean good tours, neither does a bad website mean bad tours.  All we say is check and check again, look at the staff, the tours, see what previous clients have written and once you start e-mailing with the company you select just use your own instincts and judgement.  We encourage you to look for yourself on external travel websites: Fodors, Frommers, Rick Steves, TripAdvisor etc. At any of these websites if you search "Battlebus" you will find various customer comments, and do the same thing for the other companies you are considering.

The only other advice is BOOK EARLY, it's rather like going to a fish market, arrive early and you get the best choice, go at the end of the day and you may get a bargain, but what's the quality like?  Our advice is to book whatever tour you decide to take at least 2 to 3 months in advance.

What sort of tour are you looking for?
We exclusively offer battlefield tours, so we are not suitable if you are looking for a guide that can take you on chateaux and farm tours or take you into gardens and nature reserves.  There are some guides that can do this and D-Day tours in the same package, which may be an option for you.  We are also not able to offer tours to families with children under 5 years old and for children between 5 and 12 we offer private tours as the best solution.

Can't stay a night in Normandy and want a tour from Paris?
Given the distance from Paris to Normandy by car (3+ hours drive) we strongly suggest staying in the Bayeux area and taking a tour from there.  But if you need to accomplish a visit to the D-Day beaches in a day-trip from Paris, there are options.  Here are a couple, again check them out yourself with regards to exactly what they offer: Paris Vision and CityRama

                                 Even more options
There are still many more options for touring Normandy - bus companies, cycle tours, tours from England, the USA, across Europe etc etc.  There are audio guides, GPS co-ordinates on Google and self-guiding maps and books.  Whatever method you use to visit Normandy - be prepared.
